Medical Practice IT Infrastructure Installation

This project involved the complete design, installation, and deployment of a secure, high-performance IT infrastructure for a modern medical practice. The objective was to provide a reliable, scalable, and HIPAA-conscious network environment capable of supporting electronic medical records (EMR/EHR), VoIP communications, medical devices, security systems, and daily business operations.

Scope of Work

• Installed and certified Cat6 structured cabling throughout the facility, providing high-speed Gigabit connectivity for workstations, medical equipment, wireless access points, IP phones, printers, and network-connected devices.

• Installed and configured enterprise-grade firewall appliances to provide advanced network security, intrusion prevention, VPN connectivity, application control, and secure remote access.

• Deployed secure network appliances, including managed switches, wireless infrastructure, UPS protection, and network management hardware to ensure continuous and reliable operation.

• Installed enterprise-class Layer 2/Layer 3 PoE managed switches to support IP telephony, wireless access points, surveillance cameras, and future network expansion.

• Designed and implemented multiple VLANs to logically separate network traffic, improving both security and performance. Network segmentation included:

  • Clinical/Medical Devices

  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR/EHR)

  • Administrative Staff

  • Voice over IP (VoIP)

  • Guest Wi-Fi

  • Security Cameras

  • Building Management/IoT Devices

• Configured secure inter-VLAN routing, firewall policies, access control lists (ACLs), and Quality of Service (QoS) to optimize voice and application performance while protecting sensitive patient information.

• Implemented secure wireless networking using WPA3 Enterprise, centralized management, and separate SSIDs mapped to dedicated VLANs.

• Applied network hardening best practices, including secure management access, firmware updates, port security, DHCP protection, DNS security, and continuous monitoring.

• Performed comprehensive testing, cable certification, network validation, and system documentation to ensure compliance with industry best practices and long-term maintainability.

Project Outcome

The completed infrastructure delivers a highly available, secure, and scalable network foundation that supports the medical practice’s daily operations while maintaining strong cybersecurity standards. The solution provides reliable connectivity for healthcare applications, protects sensitive patient data through network segmentation and advanced firewall policies, and allows for future growth with minimal disruption.
